For as long as they can remember, Geo has relied on hearing aids. As a music producer and songwriter, sound isn’t just something they hear, it’s how they connect with the world. So when they began to notice that some frequencies were becoming harder to hear, especially in the low and mid ranges, it didn’t just affect their daily life, it affected their music.
“I’d had the same hearing aids for about six years,” Geo explains. “Over time, I could tell I was missing parts of the sound spectrum. I couldn’t clearly distinguish chords or bass information in my tracks, which I didn’t even realise was affecting my creative process until later.”
At the time, Geo’s audiologist was based overseas, making it difficult to get regular adjustments or the specialist care their hearing and music required. When they discovered Harley Street Hearing through the Musicians’ Hearing Health Scheme, everything changed.

They booked an appointment with audiologist Fiona Butterworth, whose care and understanding made an immediate impression. “Fiona’s attention to detail during that first appointment was a big reason I chose Harley Street Hearing,” they say. “It was really important to find someone local who I could see regularly and who understands the needs of a musician.”
After a thorough consultation, Geo was fitted with Phonak Audéo Lumity hearing aids. Fiona explained the different technology tiers and why this model would suit their lifestyle, particularly because of the wide range of music-friendly accessories and its advanced sound processing.
The results were immediate.
“When I first put them on, I opened my music playlist and heard things I had never heard before. The clarity of the low and high frequencies was incredible. It genuinely changed the way I experience music.”
The hearing aids’ dedicated music mode has been especially transformative, bringing out layers of sound Geo once missed. The speech-in-noise mode has also made a huge difference in everyday conversations and social settings, allowing them to focus on voices while tuning out background noise.
Like many people adjusting to new hearing aids, the first month took some getting used to. But over a year later, Geo can’t imagine going back. “Your brain adapts,” they say. “Now I can fully appreciate the detail in music again. It’s been life-changing.”
Geo credits much of this success to Fiona’s ongoing care and communication.
“She’s the only audiologist I choose to see now. Fiona takes her time to troubleshoot, explains the back-end settings, and listens to what I need, which is so important for someone working in music. She’s always quick to respond if I need an urgent appointment and has supported me through every step, including funding applications. I honestly can’t thank her enough.”
They enjoy music with a clarity they once thought was gone.
Today, Geo feels more confident both in the studio and in everyday life. Their hearing aids are discreet, reliable, and perfectly tailored to their lifestyle, helping them create, perform, and enjoy music with a clarity they once thought was gone.
“If you’re a musician and you’re worried hearing aids might hold you back, don’t be. With the right support, they can give you so much back.”
