For Iain, hearing has always been central to connecting with the people and world around him. But in early 2023, he began to notice subtle changes that were starting to affect his everyday life.
“I had been going to another audiology clinic for routine wax removal and hearing tests. At one appointment in early 2025, they suggested I might need hearing aids to support my daily life. Hearing aids are a significant investment, so I wanted to get a second opinion before making any decisions. I started researching independent audiologists and came across Harley Street Hearing.”
Iain spent time exploring their online resources. “I watched YouTube videos, read their literature, and learned about the services they offered. Everything I saw reinforced my decision to contact them. The professionalism, knowledge, and care they displayed made choosing Harley Street Hearing an easy choice.”
Before seeking care, Iain was facing challenges with mild hearing loss at higher frequencies. He also wondered whether he might have Auditory Processing Disorder. “After a long day of meetings, I was coming home mentally exhausted from trying so hard to understand what people were saying. I found myself missing words and sounds. Trying to piece together conversations and respond appropriately meant I was often behind in discussions. Over time, I started withdrawing socially because it was so mentally draining to keep up. Changing jobs made me realise I really had to act.”
At Harley Street Hearing, Iain met audiologist and clinical lead Jordon Thompson, who guided him through every step of the process. “Jordon took the time to explain my condition clearly, the benefits and limitations of hearing aids, and how the testing worked. He helped me understand the results and what they meant for my daily life. Jordon met with me frequently as I began this journey and was always available at short notice for updates and adjustments. Knowing I had that level of support made the experience much less daunting.”
Following Jordon’s recommendation, Iain selected a hearing device from a well-known and trusted manufacturer. “I did some research on the model Jordon suggested and was reassured by the technology and the experience of the manufacturer. I also particularly enjoy being able to pipe music and podcasts directly to my devices.

My wife likes to joke that I have a ‘Mute the Wife’ button because I can focus on what I am listening to without disturbing her – or hearing her directions! It adds a bit of humour to the day.”
Adjusting to the devices was straightforward.
“It took about a week to get used to them, and now I am extremely comfortable. On the rare occasions I do not wear them, I immediately notice how much I miss the clarity of the world around me. They have become an essential part of my daily life.”
The difference in Iain’s everyday life has been profound. “Eating out with friends is now much more inclusive. I no longer struggle to keep up with conversations at the table. I feel more confident socially and enjoy being part of discussions instead of falling behind. It has restored my connection to the world around me and improved my overall wellbeing.”
For those who may be experiencing hearing difficulties but have not yet taken the first step, Iain offers this advice: “Take the first step. Even something as simple as having wax removed can lead to clearer hearing and help you reconnect with life.”
Reflecting on his experience, Iain is clear about the impact Harley Street Hearing has made. “I am really pleased I took that first step. Starting this journey to better and clearer hearing has changed how I connect with the world and with the people around me. It has made a huge difference in my life.”
