My age-related hearing loss was something I was very reluctant to admit to, but after a lengthy period of feeling that everyone was mumbling and on the off-chance anyone was saying anything interesting, I was persuaded by my partner to make an appointment with Harley Street Hearing and thank goodness I did!
Fiona Butterworth was able quickly to establish that I was indeed suffering hearing loss in both ears, particularly the left. The initial plan was to use Oticon behind-the-ear hearing aids, but thanks to childhood plastic surgery to pin back my left ear, there wasn’t really room for my specs and the hearing aid, let alone the then obligatory face mask. I could hear clearly again, but after a couple of near-misses with the left one falling out in inappropriate places, I was in despair.
However, Fiona is not a woman to be defeated and I’m now sporting custom-fitted Phonak in-ear hearing aids, which have been a dream.
Despite my short hair, they are invisible; I can hear speech entirely clearly; we no longer need the subtitles on the TV and I could even follow the conversation during my recent rather raucous 80th birthday party!
