EUHA 2026: The Latest Advances in Hearing Aid Technology

Hearing aid technology is constantly evolving, and EUHA is a great opportunity to find out what’s new and speak to the people behind it.

I attended the 70th EUHA Congress in Hannover, where I caught up with experts from all of the major hearing aid manufacturers to discuss their latest innovations and what they could mean for people with hearing loss.

From AI-powered sound processing to new connectivity features, here are four highlights that caught my attention, along with links to the full interviews.

1. Phonak Roger On Sphere and Remote Microphone Technology

Following conversations in noisy places can be difficult, even when wearing hearing aids. I spoke with Alain Kertész, Senior Director Roger at Phonak, about the new Roger On Sphere and how it aims to help.

The device brings Phonak’s Sphere AI technology to a wireless remote microphone, using AI to separate speech from background noise. Placing the microphone closer to the person speaking can help their voice reach the listener more clearly.

This could be particularly useful in restaurants, meetings and family gatherings, or when someone is speaking from a distance.

We also discussed who might benefit from Roger technology. It isn’t just for people with severe hearing loss, and compatible setups can work with hearing aids from other manufacturers and cochlear implants.

For me, this was a reminder that hearing aids aren’t always the whole answer. A remote microphone could make a real difference for people who regularly struggle in challenging listening environments.

2. Signia MaX and the Future of AI in Hearing Aids

AI is becoming an increasingly important part of hearing aid technology, but what could the latest developments mean in everyday life?

I spoke with Barinder Samra from Signia about its new MaX platform and Acoustic Intelligence, which uses four deep neural networks to analyse speech, background noise, the wearer’s own voice and their listening environment.

The aim is to help hearing aids respond to different situations, particularly when background noise makes conversations harder to follow.

Connectivity was another focus. Signia’s OneConnect technology brings together options including Bluetooth Classic, LE Audio and telecoil, alongside planned Auracast functionality, which could allow compatible devices to receive audio broadcasts in suitable public spaces.

We also discussed Own Voice Processing AI, designed to remove the need for individual voice training during fitting, and SoundSmoothing 2.0, which aims to reduce sudden, irritating sounds.

It’s interesting to see how much is happening behind the scenes. Ultimately, what matters is whether these developments help people hear more comfortably in the situations that matter to them.

3. Phonak EON Sphere vs Infinio Sphere

When a new generation of hearing aids launches, I’m interested in finding out what’s changed and whether those changes could make a difference to the wearer.

At EUHA, I spoke with Michael Preuss, Senior Audiology Manager at Phonak, about the new EON Sphere and how it compares with Infinio Sphere.

We discussed Spheric Speech Clarity 3.0, AutoSense OS AI 8.0 and WindBlock 2.0, which focus on speech clarity, adapting to different listening environments and managing wind noise.

Battery life was another talking point. Phonak states that EON Sphere offers up to 38 hours of maximum runtime, depending on usage and settings. We also discussed charging-cycle testing and battery longevity.

What made this interview particularly interesting was Michael’s personal experience. Having worn hearing aids since the age of three and living with severe-to-profound hearing loss, he shared how the technology has influenced his confidence in noisy situations.

Hearing his perspective brought a personal dimension to the conversation that you don’t get from product specifications alone.

4. What Sets Starkey Omega AI+ Apart

My final highlight was a conversation with Dr Achin Bhowmik, Chief Technology Officer at Starkey, about its new Omega AI+ hearing aids.

We discussed Starkey’s Quad DNN architecture, which uses four specialised neural networks to process sound in real time, with the aim of supporting speech understanding and listening comfort.

Another development is the DNN Dual Compressor, designed to balance speech clarity with sound quality. We also explored features beyond hearing itself, including sleep tracking, sleep-position monitoring and alerts to help users locate misplaced hearing aids.

We touched on directional hearing, spatial awareness and what Achin means by the potential for “superhuman hearing”.

I was particularly interested in his personal perspective. Despite having normal hearing, Achin wears hearing aids himself, offering a different insight into how hearing technology can be used.

As with any new development, the real test is how useful these features are in practice and whether they’re right for the individual.

My Key Takeaways from EUHA 2026

This year’s congress highlighted the growing role of AI, connectivity and remote microphones in helping people hear more comfortably in challenging listening environments.

However, the latest technology isn’t always the best fit for everyone. The right solution depends on individual hearing needs, lifestyle and listening environments.

As an independent audiologist, I value EUHA for the opportunity to speak directly with manufacturers and explore how new developments can benefit my patients. At Harley Street Hearing, we offer hearing aids from a wide range of manufacturers, helping us recommend solutions tailored to each individual.
