Hearing Therapy

Hearing Therapy Initial Assessment
You will be seen by a clinical audiologist who specialises in the assessment and management of tinnitus, hyperacusis, and other auditory phenomena. During the appointment, your clinical audiologist will conduct several clinical observations and tests before discussing the results and collaboratively developing a management plan.

A detailed history of your ear-related symptoms is crucial. We will ask you a series of questions to understand the issues you are experiencing and how they affect your daily routine.

Using an otoscope, we will examine your ear canal to ensure it is free from occluding wax or debris and to check the physical appearance of your tympanic membrane (eardrum).

An assessment of middle and inner ear function will be performed using tympanometry, otoacoustic emissions, and pure tone audiometry. These tests help your clinical audiologist to better understand your auditory function and assess your auditory health.

Depending on your history, additional investigations may be required, which we will discuss with you in detail.

After the assessment, we will explain all the results and answer any questions you may have. They will provide insights into the available options and recommend the most appropriate management strategies for you.

Hearing Therapy Session
At your initial hearing therapy assessment, your clinical audiologist would have made recommendations on the best next steps in managing your tinnitus.

Based on these recommendations, your hearing therapy sessions will be tailored to your needs, with the goal of reducing the impact that your tinnitus is having on your life.

Each session may include Cognitive Behavioural Therapies (CBT), relaxation and mindfulness techniques, designed to help you change your thought patterns and your response to the tinnitus, with the aim of reducing your perception of the tinnitus over time.
